My Firefighter’s View of Life in the Trenches

Dr. Christen is retired Battalion Chief for the Atlanta Fire Department and Director of Emergency Services for Okaloosa County, Florida.

In his prerecorded address, Hank shares with us some of his experiences when he was a Battalion Chief for the Atlanta Fire Department and later Team Commander for the Gulf Coast Disaster Medical Assistance Team. During his lengthy career, Hank responded to twelve national level disasters, including the 2001 World Trade Center Attack. As a first responder, he experienced as he describes it, “a mix of catastrophic disasters, medical incidents, and fires.” In his message he will share some of his failures as well as success stories, and even a few humorous ones. He will focus on how his career experiences overarched his Unitarian Universalist perspectives.

Hank and his wife, Lynne, have been members of the Fellowship since 2010.
