Rev. Ruth’s Reflections – January 8th, 2024

Rev. Ruth's Reflections Hello Emerald Coasters!

My family decided to start off 2024 with the flu! While our shots certainly kept the worst symptoms at bay, three of us have been down for days! Liam remains well and has been our lifeline to the outside world!

I had plans for the holidays! Visiting, shopping, cooking, entertainments, board games, appointments, etc – all disappeared in the storm of sniffling, sneezing, coughing, gastric distress, and the other fun of flu!

Life just goes that way sometimes! Crying, screaming, and swearing are appropriate responses to such misfortunes, but at the end of the day, we have no choice but to endure.

I look at it this way: the year can only get better! As John Irving’s character T.S. Garp says upon witnessing a plane crash into the house he wants to buy, “It’s pre-disastered!”

So we are embracing a pre-disastered 2024 at my house! Hope your year is looking promising, disasters not withstanding!

In wisdom, grace, and hope,
Rev. Ruth
