In the Interim… Come, Come, Whoever You Are: World Cafe II

Identity: Who are you? Who am I? Who are we together? We can look in the mirror and find some answers to these questions about our identity. However, it’s in conversations, asking and answering one another, seeing ourselves through another’s eyes that we truly come to know who we are.

Earlier this fall, members of this UU Fellowship did just that. The identity of UUFEC that emerged from these “conversations that matter” was expressed in a variety of ways that boiled down to “COMMUNITY!” Some of the facets of community, those characteristics that matter to you and that hold you here are spelled out in the summary of your comments (“World Café I Summary” is available on our website at http://www.uufec.com/wordpress/news/world-cafe-one-identity/ ).

For Unitarian Universalists, answers to questions often lead us to more questions! What’s the PURPOSE of this Community that is so important to us? Or putting it another way, “What are we called to do?” Is it enough to be friends, be caring, be open-minded, welcoming? For some of us, that may be our individual “calling” as a member or friend of the Fellowship. But you may be among those UU’s who feel that our strong ethical principles (described in our UU Principles and Purposes) ask more of us. Some of you may look at the UUFEC “mission statement” crafted some years ago and say, “That’s our calling!” You may have strong feelings about how we should go about acting on those convictions. Maybe you’ve been waiting for UUFEC to _____________ (fill in the blank).

Understanding our identity better was accomplished through dialogue with one another. Clarifying our PURPOSE (or purposes) can be, too. The question we’ll discuss is “What is our Community called to do?”

Come to the Fellowship on Sunday, December 6 for the Sunday service and stay for the second World Café “conversations that matter” from 11:15-12:45. Member or friend – everyone is invited. Usual second hour programs will be postponed (exception: Membership Orientation session I for newcomers and visitors who are considering membership). Child care will be available. Enjoy hearty refreshments during coffee hour and after. See you Sunday

In faith,
Karen
