One capsule definition sometimes given for what a Unitarian Universalist church is claims that “we are not a creedal church, but a covenantal church.” Covenants show up in many areas of our lives (including in congregational life) as sets of promises for how a relationship will work. As UUFEC’s Committee on Ministry prepares to invite input and draft a proposed congregational covenant for UUFEC, this service looks at the meaning of covenants among UUs, why they are vital for healthy relationships in the congregation–and what happens when a covenant is broken. Rev. Kathy and service leader Sharlene Farley explore the subject of covenants and will offer a Speaker’s Circle afterwards to launch a discussion of a covenant for our congregation.
