Beach Con 2010 – June 4, 5 and 6, 2010

Beach Con is a Youth led conference held June 4-6, 2010 at UUFEC in Valparaiso, FL near the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. The schedule will include going to the beach, along with other traditional Beach Con activities.

We know there are concerns about the state of the beaches here following the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We will give you updates on what we know about the state of the beach as the time for Beach Con approaches. The current state of our beaches here is unspoiled, white and beautiful! We WILL be holding Beach Con regardless of what happens with the oil spill, and even in the case the beach in not usable by June 4-6, Mid-South Youth will have the opportunity to view and inspect the beaches, and perhaps find ways to help in the cleanup.

Beach Con is and has been about the relationships among Mid-South Youth and activities outside of beach visits are important to continue to foster those relationships… and to have some fun! Please plan to attend and get involved with environmental issues along with cultivating lifelong relationships.

May 24/25 Update:

Beaches and business are open in the Florida Panhandle, even while work continues to contain the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Many business and vacationers think that there’s been a lot of mass hysteria in the media about the oil spill and that the information has been very non specific as to the location of where the oil has come ashore. The oil in the gulf, at present is 80 miles out to sea, from the panhandle.

The oil spill is still not predicted to effect Destin and there is no smell from the oil burns in the air.
